Valerian is a herbal remedy that is commonly used in other countries, such as Germany, Belgium, France, Italy and Switzerland as a relaxant and herbal remedy for sleep. This gentle herb is known to bring about natural sleep and aid in ending insomnia, without morning grogginess. It is not addictive like some prescription drugs can be.
Some may experience side effects, such as dizziness, indigestion, or heart palpatations. You should not take varerian or any other herbal supplement when you are taking medications without first discussing your intent with your physician and/or pharmacist. Valerian may be “just an herb”, but remember that herbs and even foods can be used as a form of natural medicine, and interaction should be considered.
