Everybody desires happiness, but not many have it. Happiness is something I find very fascinating primarily because it can seem so unattainable for some people. While for others find it easy to be happy. I have a friend who is just like that. He is always genuinely happy. He just has so much joy for life and living.
Even when bad things happen, he may feel upset for a while but then quickly bounces back to his old self. I’ve always wondered how he does that. To me, that is a very admirable and enviable trait to have.
Happiness is a state of mind that originates internally. External possessions and things do not bring true lasting happiness. It merely serves to provide brief pleasures and distraction away from the various unhappy aspects of life. After a short while, these external possessions loses it’s appeal. Unfortunately, many people deal with wanting happiness by seeking more new things, and this becomes a never-ending cycle.
Never seek for these brief pleasures. Don’t let yourself get into the cycle of constantly chasing external possessions to be happy. What we should do is focus on having true lasting happiness that comes internally from within ourselves.
So what makes the difference between happy and unhappy people? Happy people have a totally different mind-set compared to unhappy people. It’s all in the attitude. Happy people think differently, see things differently, and interpret situations differently. They focus on the positive, they take responsibility and don’t blame others. Happy people view failures as valuable learning experiences. They don’t let little things get to them because they know not to take life too seriously.
Change your outlook of life and you will start to experience more happiness. Below are some ways to cultivate true happiness.
1. Practice gratitude 2. Listen to happy music 3. Read inspirational stories, quotes and poems about happiness 4. Smile and laugh 5. Set aside time to do a hobby or activity that you enjoy 6. Learn to appreciate the beauty in the world 7. Help others
Often times we fail to give happiness the priority it deserves. We don’t commit and give importance to making ourselves happy. No wonder we’re always unhappy. Commit to happiness and consistently do the actions in the list above. Happiness like everything else, requires effort too.
