Home Business: Homemade Soaps

Having a baby is truly a wonderful time in a new mother’s life. With this event, she is faced with joy, happiness and simple surprises that her bundle of joy could only bring. Alongside the bliss and euphoria new motherhood can bring, changes and challenges on her new lifestyle is also present. A new mom is often faced with the decision making of working to help her husband fend for the family or by staying at home to take care of her baby.

Thankfully there are solutions to hands-on moms who also wanted to help their husbands with their financial situations. This is through selling homemade goodies and crafts that can turn a hobby to an exciting and fun business opportunity. One such example of craft making is homemade soaps. Homemade soaps are very easy to do because ingredients and utensils are found in an ordinary household kitchen!

To make a homemade lavender soap first step is to gather the ingredients. The ingredients are one bar of color free or no fragrance soap, lavender oil, almond oil (moisturizer), and food coloring. Grate the soap in a blender. Prepare a double broiler using a glass bowl. Add the almond oil into the glass bowl. Add the soap. Mix together and add water from the broiler until soap becomes paste. Add the food coloring. Remove from heat and transfer to mold of choice.

After cooling, remove from mold and lay on a wax paper sheet to air dry. Allow at least a day before wrapping in wax paper or plastic sheet. For decorating, add oatmeal flakes or almonds (not too many) for exfoliating, papaya soap cubes for whitening, or flower petals. You may also want to leave half a bar of color free soap to cut it into small cubes and add it into the soap for design. Ice cubes, cookie cutters, and cupcake molds are excellent molds.

Homemade soaps are excellent gifts for loved ones and a low capital business with high profits. Moms at home can transform their kitchen into a mini lab by experimenting and playing with different homemade soap recipes. Homemade soaps are excellent business starters for moms who want to turn a hobby into a money making opportunity.
