Alpha Dog Secrets

Perhaps the most important thing your dog ever needs to understand is that you are the boss, you are the Alpha Dog. When raising your dog it is very easy to be weak in an effort to show love and affection – this commonly leads to your dog believing that he is the master in your relationship. If this is the case in your relationship – you need to correct the social standing immediately.

Being the Alpha Dog is related in no way to the handing out of physical punishments. As Alpha Dog, you will simply need to live by a few basic principals. I will now talk more about these and give tips as to how you can become the Alpha Dog.

Tip 1 – Always walk through doorways first.

An Alpha Dog will always walk through a doorway before other dogs. Make sure you do the same. Your dog will begin to understand that you are superior and must be respected. Never allow your dog to walk through before you.

Tip 2 – Ensure that you eat before your dog

When dogs lived in packs the Alpha dog always ate first and then allowed the other dogs to eat. Make sure you and your family eat first and then your dog.

Tip 3 – Take immediate response to disobedience.

If your dog does something that it should never do under any circumstances (e.g. steals your food when you are not watching), take immediate controlled action to teach the dog that what it has just done is very wrong. As you catch your dog in the act you need to make some form of loud noise, clapping of the hands is a good option. Next, tell your dog to sit and then grab it by the snout (squeezing it gently) and slowly say “Bad Dog, Very Bad Dog” in a deep but controlled voice. After you have done this give your dog no attention whatsoever for 20 minutes.

Tip 4 – Don’t walk around your dog – make your dog move for you.

This is a very effective way to show your dog that you are the leader. If you ever find your dog in your path, make it move – don’t walk around the dog. This sounds a bit extreme but it is a measure that must be taken. This is exactly what an Alpha Dog would do if it was in your situation.

Tip 5 – Don’t allow your dog to sleep on your bed.

Your dog should never sleep on your bed. This puts your dog on the same level as you socially and can encourage your dog to believe it is superior to you. Always make your dog sleep on the floor to ensure you are held in respect.

After implementing the tips mentioned above you will become the Alpha Dog. Being the Alpha dog means your dog will respect you more and behave accordingly. Your dog will also be much happier knowing its place in the relationship.
