Mood Lighting

It is possible to create a certain mood by just using the right lighting. This is also referred to as setting a mood. By turning lights off and using candles you can create a romantic atmosphere and mood, but there is more to it than just that.

A romantic mood can be created just by correctly using your lighting. However, other moods can also be created and it all is dependent on the room in question. Since each room has a different purpose, the mood lighting has to be suitable for the activities that take place in that particular area.

Mood Lighting for Romance In order to create a so-called “romantic mood”, you will need low lighting which is able to cast shadows around the room since that gives the room an intimate feel to it. You want to be able to put yourself and your partner in the spotlight so that you can forget about everything else. Candles are good for such situations, but table lamps with low watt light bulbs or overhead lights that can be dimmed also do the trick.

Using dimmer switches is a good idea for overhead lights in just about any room, but especially the bedroom, living room, bathroom and dining room. These rooms are most suitable for dimming lights because they can all easily be linked to romance or are places of relaxation. During other times, however, there is need for bright light in these rooms and the dimmer allows you to adjust the brightness according to your needs at the time. Another thing you can do is to have several light sources in these rooms, all of which have their own switches or power sources. This way you have both bright, functional light when necessary, but can also dim the lights whenever you want or have need to.

Creating Clean, Modern Moods Creating a clean, modern mood or atmosphere for your home requires both bright and even lighting. Some light has to be direct and others diffused and in order to have the modern feel you will have to make sure that there are no shadowy areas in the room. This is best done by have a lot of overhead lighting, as well as monorail and track light sources. Dark corners require extra lamps so that they too are properly lit.

No Dark and Dreary for Kids In general a room for a child should be bright and cheery, which means it must have adequate lighting. Although adult bedrooms have to serve more than one purpose, for children you don’t need to think of having lighting for creating a romantic or relaxing mood. Overhead lighting is must suitable for children’s rooms and it may even be a good idea to choose a ceiling fan to improve air flow. In addition it is good to have additional sources of lighting, such as table lamps or desk lamps in a child’s room.

Work Areas Need A Functional, Businesslike Mood Home offices and kitchens-where lots of activities are taking place and work is done-require bright, functional lighting to direct light where you need it most. You can achieve this with global overhead lighting or a combination of task lighting options. Bright light in work areas also conveys a positive, energetic, professional mood that is helpful when you’re trying to get things done.
