Achievement & Reward: Where do we Begin?

We talked earlier about the four quadrants, or phases, of a creativity cycle.  If you missed that blog posting, you can see it at SelfLoveTips.com.  Here’s a little recap:

Every story has a beginning, middle and ending.  For the life of any creative process, be it professional or personal, outward or inward, solo or group oriented, there will be phases.  Half of it is planning, in fact we don’t really see results until we reach the last quadrant.

Today I would like to talk about that first quadrant.  In the beginning there was a void.  Into that void came a spark, the genesis.  In fact, many spiritual writings (the Bible as well as the Torah) begin with a detailed description of how the world began: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God was moving over the face of the waters.”

We create “our world” all of the time, metaphorically.  After all, our experiences and what we gain from them give us a very unique perspective.  We live within our own “inner world”.  We are constantly creating and completing cycles that feed our collective experience.

Let’s talk about the part before Genesis: the idea or conception.  Some people think there are no new ideas in this world, but that’s not true.  There has been, and will always be, new twists and turns, new viewpoints, and let’s not forget new packaging and marketing.  The idea: pre-genesis.

What do you need when you want to create?  Ideas, materials, inititive, productivity.  Good start.  What’s missing?  Space.  In order to create we need the void.  Our western culture doesn’t accept or promote the void, in fact it’s viewed as a bad thing.   Other cultures accept it, knowing that it’s all a part of the cycle, just like night and day.  This world is yin yang, we should come to grips with it.

Let’s shift our focus for a minute.  Have you ever heard the expression, “nature doesn’t permit a void”?  Let’s take the Easy Way to Happiness.  So we know that nature doesn’t permit a void.  What will it do?  Nature will fill that void.  Hmmm, so there is a natural tendency to fill any void.  Sounds easy.  What if we come prepared, ready with the enthusiasm and excitement of a new dream, ready to fill that void before nature does it for us?  So let’s cover the steps:

  1. Create space for your new project, relationship, activity, whatever it may be.
  2. Have a clear picture of what you would like to create for direction.
  3. Notice if you have reservations, hesitation, doubts, and write them down.
  4. Either clear those items you wrote down, or at least allocate your time/resources so your new creation has some growing room.
  5. Imagine that new creation like a balloon, fill it with enthusiasm, and passion for life.
  6. Take a snapshot, put it in your pocket.
  7. Let go of the balloon, let it go out into the cosmos so that it can return to you in new form.
